Google has significantly extended the global availability of its AI-generated search summaries, rolling them out to more than 200 countries and territories and supporting over 40 languages worldwide.
Unveiled during the Google I/O event, this expansion means a far larger audience can now access AI-powered summaries directly within Google Search. Initially launched in October to just over 100 regions, these AI Overviews are now accessible in double that number.
In this update, support has been added for numerous additional languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Malay, and Urdu, enhancing usability across diverse linguistic populations.
For users seeking specifics, a comprehensive list of supported regions is provided in Google’s official help resources.
According to Liz Reid, Google Search’s VP, more than 1.5 billion users now engage with AI Overviews each month. She emphasized the system’s speed, claiming that Google’s AI offers some of the industry’s fastest response times.
This expansion was anticipated by many, especially as reports recently surfaced showing AI Overviews being tested in previously unsupported regions.
Google reports a 10% uptick in user search activity following exposure to AI Overviews. The company attributes this growth to a heightened curiosity among users, who tend to perform more searches after interacting with AI-enhanced results. This finding is backed by internal testing, where two user groups—one exposed to AI Overviews and one not—were compared for search volume.
According to Reid, this behavioral change suggests users are increasingly engaged and inclined to dig deeper into topics after using the feature.
Another insight shared by Google is that AI Overviews drive not just more traffic, but better traffic. Users clicking through from AI responses are reportedly spending more time on the resulting webpages compared to those who come from traditional search links. This suggests a higher level of engagement and content relevance.
To handle these more complex interactions, Google has upgraded its underlying technology. The new iteration of AI Overviews now leverages a specialized version of the Gemini 2.5 model. This enhancement also powers Google’s broader AI Mode, making it capable of tackling more sophisticated queries.
