Google Introduces Gemini, Formerly Known as Bard, Alongside Paid Version

Google-Gemini

Google has rebranded its generative AI-powered conversational tool Bard to Gemini. This renaming comes with the unveiling of Gemini Advanced, a paid version of the platform, now bundled as part of Google One for $19.99 a month.

Additionally, Google has announced several updates:

  • A paid version of Gemini, named Gemini Advanced.
  • Gemini is now the default opt-in assistant on Android and has been integrated into the iOS Google App.
  • Gemini will replace Duet AI and be implemented across various Google products such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, and more.

This transition to Gemini signifies a pivotal moment as Google reshapes its core products, particularly Search, with Gemini already making waves since its launch in December. It has seen application in SGE and Google Ads, with further integration planned for Google Search in the coming year.

For users familiar with Bard, the changes are minimal:

  • Bard is now referred to as Gemini.
  • The tool’s URL has shifted from bard.google.com to gemini.google.com.

Google’s rationale behind the name change is to simplify user interaction and emphasize the Gemini ecosystem. Although current users may find Gemini still identifying itself as Bard, Google is actively working to rectify this discrepancy.

On mobile, Gemini will soon have its standalone app for Android users, allowing them to opt for a Gemini-led experience or retain their current assistant setup. Gemini will also be accessible via the Google app on iOS.

Gemini Advanced, powered by Gemini Ultra 1.0, promises enhanced capabilities in understanding nuanced instructions and context. Initially available in English across 150 countries, Google plans to expand language support and introduce exclusive features for multimodal interaction, coding, and data analysis.

Google is offering a free two-month trial for new subscribers to Gemini Advanced. As part of the Google One premium plan, Gemini will soon permeate other Google products, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, effectively replacing Duet AI.
